To start things off, please introduce yourself to us.

Hey! I’m Rachel, and I run Rachilli Web & Design Studio. I’m an award-winning designer and photographer that helps creative entrepreneurs build & grow more powerful brands. :)

Where in the world are you located?
I hail from Manchester, in the North-West part of the UK.

How is your day structured - do you have a routine or do you go with the flow?

I like to think I have a routine, but it never ends up that way. I’ve had my ‘ideal day’ planned out for months, but it never works that way. I like to get up early (my natural rhythm seems to be waking up at 6:30 at the mo) and get a few things done on my own business first thing, like answering emails and sometimes working on my own products or website.

After that, I usually work on client projects for the majority of the day. I do a lot of 1:1 client work and spend my days designing branding elements or building websites, so I spend a good chunk of time working on that.

Something I tried recently was to spend my first 3 days working on client work, and the final 2 days of the week working on things for my own business. That was AMAZING. I found it helped me stay super motivated with client work, as I knew I had a limited time to get things done. I was so productive! And to work on my own business for 2 whole days was amazing - and that’s something I’m going to start implementing more often!

What inspires you everyday?

People! I consider myself super lucky to surround myself with incredible people, online and offline, and love seeing what all my friends are up to. I really do consider myself my friend’s biggest cheerleaders and love seeing what everyone is creating or working on.

What is your favorite day of the week and why?

I was thinking about this not too long ago! I love Wednesday’s because they’re the middle day (I’m obsessed with patterns and equals), and it’s also a day where I dedicate the evening to doing whatever I want to do - instead of working or playing video games. Often I try to do something that’s going to help me learn, or grow, in some way like trying a new craft or watching a fun webinar. That, or I get out and head to an exercise class to get me moving.

What’s something you do everyday?

Cuddle my pups! I have two gorgeous dogs (Storm and Jasper - brother and sister - Blue Merle Border Collie x Black Lab crosses) and they spend most of their day with me, and me with them. They let me know when I’m working too hard by whining at me for cuddles, and they brighten my day every day.

Where do you spend the most time during the day?

In my home office! I feel super lucky that I’ve got my own room for my office, even if it is pretty tiny, and I’ve been working super hard lately to make it my own. I’ve painted one of the main walls in one of my brand colours, and started accessorising it and making it my own. :)

What does balance look like to you?

Balance for me means being able to work on everything I want to, but also making sure I make the time for myself and for my relationships.

That said...balance is something that I try hard to find, and often feel like it’s so far out of reach. It’s that endless process that means making a real choice every day to fight my perfectionistic tendencies, and the voice in my back saying I need to do and be more, to simply STOP sometimes.

I have a tendency to overwork (that goes waaay back to even my school days!) and often feel like I need to do more to be ‘good enough’. I also have a chronic illness that means that I need to listen to my body and take regular breaks. Trying to match up all of that is a little crazy and overwhelming at times, but when I DO get that balance right - it’s gold for me and means I’m more settled, less stressed, and I’m a happier and brighter person.

Do you have a life philosophy or motto that you live by?

I feel like something I have always tried to hold really close to me is kindness. I truly believe that you get back in life what you put out there, and I believe that being kind to everybody you come across can only make the world around you better. Whether that’s smiling at someone when you’re out and about, or being generous with your time with others - throwing kindness around like confetti can only be good for you and for those around you.

Do you have a favorite quote?

Yes! I have two - is that allowed?! Haha! They’re both about fear, and about showing me how fear is something to face and then choose to take back my power with.

“The moment you doubt whether you can fly, you cease forever to be able to do it” - J.M. Barrie

“You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You must do the thing which you think you cannot do.” - Eleanor Roosevelt

A lil’ bit o’ biz

Tell us about your biggest ah-ha moment.

Realising that I could be my most authentic self - be me, unapologetically, and that people would still love me for it. That I didn’t have to hide any part of me away, and that I could show up as who I am through and through. That was an amazing moment for me, and it feels like it only happened FULLY really recently - and it’s one of the biggest I’ve had yet.

How do you stay motivated through the ups and downs of owning your own business?

By surrounding myself with two kinds of people: those that understand exactly what I’m going through; and those that will support me no matter what!

I think it’s important to be around people that get it - that know what you’re going through, from the ups and downs, from the most joyous of joys, to the lowest of the lows. But I also think it’s important that they give you a kick up the butt when you need it, to make sure you don’t stay stuck, rooted in the same place and never growing.

At the same time, you need to be surrounded by those people that will support you unconditionally, no matter what. To know you have that constant support and wavering faith can give you the strength you need even in the hardest of moments.

What in your business gives you the most joy?

Getting to help other people. It is one of the things I love most about running my own business. I really believe that our work has a ripple effect - and by helping people, they then go on to help their people, and they go on to help the others around them... I feel like having the opportunity to really help people and make a difference in someone’s life is so rewarding. What I do is way more than what I physically do by designing a brand or building a website - it’s helping people really embrace who they are on a soul-level, and amplifying that to the world. And that brings me SO much joy.

Introvert that loves people!

Dogs! I love all animals, but I’ve always owned dogs.
