Behind the Screen - Nevica Vazquez
To start things off, please introduce yourself to us.
Hi friend! I’m Nevica.
In one sentence, describe your business.
I’m a business strategist for digital bosses who want to scale their online business.
Where in the world are you located?
What inspires you everyday?
My friends + nature walks.
Seeing and hearing what my friends are creating in this world gives me the motivation I need to know my dreams and possible and to dream bigger! Surround yourself with smart and creative women and you won’t believe how your life starts changing! I’m also always re-energized after I go for a walk or hike in nature. Just taking the time to look up at the sky and notice it’s beauty gives me the inspiration I need to get back to the computer and create!
What is your favorite day of the week and why?
I can’t pick - either Sunday because it’s family day and I get to spend it with my loved one’s or Monday because I come back to work SO refreshed and ready to make things happen!
What was the best thing that happened to you last week?
I’ve lived in the same neighborhood my entire life, and for the first time I went hiking at a park that’s only 10 minutes away. It was so much fun to see that in the middle of the city (Queens, NY) I could experience so much nature. I saw chipmunks, a cardinal, and a blue jay, animals I for some naive reason I thought could never be in city. So it was so refreshing to take a break and experience the beauty that’s always been so close to home!
If you had a free day to do anything (no working allowed), what would you fill your time with?
Definitely going for a hike with family that’s equal parts a great workout and beautiful location. It would be a plus if it lead to a beach and I got to go jet skiing!
What’s a simple way that you treat yourself?
Every month I get a facial no matter what! I don’t actually consider it “treating myself” I always viewed it as what I have to do to take the best care of my skin. I would view getting a manicure or pedicure as more of a treat, but since I rarely do that, I’m using “facial” as my answer! Lol
What is something you’re waiting to splurge on?
I was waiting until yesterday, but I just splurged on a trip to Spain as a present for my mom’s 60th birthday! The only thing I would probably ever “splurge” on is travel/experiences. I’m really cheap when it comes to material things, I would definitely say I’m a minimalist in that I don’t have and don’t want a lot of things, it’s hard for me to justify spending money on anything if it’s not a necessity or an experience.
Do you have a life philosophy or motto that you live by?
The point of it all is to love others well. I’ve lost a lot of people close to me, and have been to too many funerals. At every funeral people only remember one thing. HOW YOU MADE THEM FEEL. They remember the memories you had together and all the good emotions they shared with the person lost. That’s literally all people talk about when your time here has ended. So never let anything - work, anger, disappointment, get in the way of how you love on your loved ones. Make time for them, create memories with them, be there for them. It really is the only thing that matters.
A lil’ bit o’ biz
How do you stay motivated through the ups and downs of owning your own business?
First by talking to other biz owners who GET IT and who are much more experienced than I am. They help me remember that what I want is possible, success is on the way, and that I just have to keep working at it and building to get where I want to go. Talking to people who have “been there done that” really helps me believe in myself again when things aren’t going great.
Second, remembering why I started this - to go after my dreams and have a better life for myself and my family.
Lastly by always keeping myself in check, things could always be MUCH worse, I could be unhealthy, I could have been born somewhere else where owning a business wouldn’t even have been an option. Remembering that makes me work hard for all of the people who didn’t have a chance to be in the position I’m in right now.
What in your business gives you the most joy?
Talking to my clients during our sessions, seeing everything click for them, then watching them go out and execute the plan we created, which then brings them the results they were looking for! There’s nothing better than helping someone reach their goals, but also I honestly just love talking to these ladies and hearing about what they are working toward and why. They are so inspiring and it gives me so much hope for all the good and incredible people there are in this world!
Who have been your biggest mentors?
Mimi and Alex Ikonn. I’ve only met them in person once at a meetup they had, but virtually they've been mentoring me since college with the videos they publish on YouTube. I really believe the key to any success is Mindset + Strategy + Execution. Mimi and Alex gave me the mindset I needed to believe that owning a business was even possible. It’s because of them that I found this big and crazy “online world”. They showed me that having your own business, being in a loving relationship, traveling the world, being a good person, and making millions of dollars in your twenties, even when you start from nothing is possible if you work for it. 5-6 years later and I still watch their videos every week to stay motivated and get inspired!
